Areas of Specialty

I have been practicing mindfulness for 22 years and teaching it for 15 years. I hold a Master of Education (M.Ed.) and a Master in Mind, Brain and Teaching (MCMBT), graduating summa cum laude, from Johns Hopkins University. In this program, I focused my research review on the mechanisms involved in allostatic load, the consequences of stress overload on the nervous system, and the impact it has on mood, learning, behavior, executive function and well-being. I also researched the effectiveness of mindfulness as an intervention to ameliorate and even transform our reaction to stressors.

I have created a 3-level, research-based course called “Neurobiology of Stress Management – Mindfulness and Meditation Tools for Wellbeing.” In these courses I have synthesized powerful neuroscience-based techniques as well as other modalities I developed to train the brain, calm anxiety and develop equanimity to meet our everyday challenges. I am offering these courses in Spanish as well.

I integrate brain science, mindfulness, secular Buddhism, and deep Jungian Psychology to raise awareness of one’s experience, restructure the architecture of the brain through neuro-plasticity, develop habits of mind to handle stressors, create new heathy patterns, and bring joy and vibrancy into one’s life.

I have trained in the principles and practices of mindfulness through several programs including the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society. Through their Oasis Institute Programs, I completed the Professional Training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program, led by Dr. Jon-Kabat Zinn, founder of MBSR, and Dr. Saki Santorelli, now retired Director of the Center for Mindfulness.

I am the Spanish Program Coordinator and Spanish Editor to Tara Brach’s Dharma Talks and Meditations for the Spanish-speaking world.
