All forms of healing rest on assumptions about human nature. Psychotherapy and Buddhist meditation share many of these assumptions while also departing in significant ways. As interest is growing in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, its clinical efficacy raises foundational questions about our basic nature: What do these non-traditional forms of healing share, and what do they suggest about psychological suffering, healing, and our capacity to live lives of wisdom and kindness?
